We have launched a new and improved version of Fix & Flash. Please note this guide was created using the previous model but is still suitable for the new version. Browse the new Fix & Flash today.

Step 1: Mark the centre of the mirror

To create your DIY sun mirror, start by gathering your marker pen, compass, and mirror to upcycle. Then, on the back of the mirror, make a small dot to indicate the centre with a marker pen.

Once your mark is in place, use your compass to make two circles 2-3 centimetres apart around the centre. You could also use two different sized glasses instead. These circles will be used as markers for the wooden skewers.

Step 2: Glue skewers in place

Glue each skewer to the back of the mirror evenly with Fix & Flash by adding a drop of glue to the mirror, then sticking the wooden skewers in place and pressing it into position for approximately 5 seconds to create the initial bond.

Then, shine the light over the area to set the glue in place. Repeat over until all your wooden skewers have been stuck into position to create your sun effect. Please note, your DIY sun mirror will be dry but full cure is achieved in 24 hours.

Step 3: Apply gold spray

Place your DIY mirror onto some old newspaper or a large tablecloth to protect the work surface. Cut out a circle to the size of your mirror from paper and cover the mirror using the paper to protect it.

From about 30cm away, spray the gold spray paint onto the mirror and the skewers and wait for the paint to dry.

Alternatively, leave the wooden skewers as they are for a more boho-feel to your mirror or spray them in a bold colour of choice!

Tip

We recommend sticking the paper cover in place using a Removable Glu Dot or blob of Blu Tack® to ensure it doesn’t move whilst spraying the gold paint.

Step 4: Hang your DIY mirror

Ta-da! Your DIY sun mirror is complete and it's ready to take centre stage on your wall.

Fancy creating your own hook? You can use the small tab from a drinks can. Carefully remove the tab from the can and fold it so that the circle end sits away from the mirror slightly. Then, using Fix & Flash, glue it into place.
